Who are we?
We are a group of passionate volunteers, using our various skills to help welcome refugees into our local community of Ashbourne, in the picturesque Derbyshire Dales.
We are able to use our local knowledge to support families in different ways . We have been working within the Home Office community sponsorship scheme, drawing on our combined strengths to help rebuild damaged lives. We are also helping refugees who have been supported by local authorities, acting as good neighbours and providing a helping hand to help them navigate their way around local services.
Wars and other conflicts displace millions of people around the world, with many forced to leave their homes each year. The UK has a proud tradition of providing a refuge and our aim is to offer a safe home for several refugee families here in Ashbourne.
We offer a welcome into our community with:
Access to services – such as education and health
Access to opportunities – to learn English and to work
Family support – to help refugees to settle and begin rebuilding their lives
