Fundraising & Events
We organise events in and around Ashbourne to raise awareness and to fundraise for our work. With the support of local businesses and our local community, we aim to raise £10,000 per refugee family.
Any donation you are able to make, no matter how small, will help us to pay for costs such as furniture, language tuition, clothing, school uniforms and much, much more.
Upcoming Events
The support you give us by coming along to our fund raising events helps us to continue with our work.
We aim to have an event most months of the year - these range from friendly local group walks where everyone is welcome, to ticketed events held in various locations in Ashbourne or one of the neighbouring villages.
Diary dates for 2024
On Tuesday 19 March we will be holding a talk and slide show about overwintering in extreme conditions in the Antarctic. The evening will take place at Parwich Memorial Hall, at 7.15pm. Tickets are £10 each to include a drink and bar snack. Tickets are available on the door on the night.
Recent Events
Former Red Arrows Pilot in Charity Fundraiser
A former Red Arrows Pilot has given a fascinating insight into the adrenalin fuelled world in the cockpit of one of the famous jets.
A large audience turned out at Alstonefield Village Hall to hear Charlie McIllroy talk about what it takes to fly with the elite Red Arrows aero display team.
The event raised more than £600.
Charity Film Screening
ARCS and Ashbourne Community Cinema held a fundraising screening of Limbo at the Pavillion on March 20. A critically acclaimed film, imagining the lot of Syrian asylum seekers holed up on a remote Scottish island, it lived up to its accolades being “wry, funny and poignant” and drew applause from the audience. Whisky Dave (to whom thanks so much for your support) treated us to a short talk about whisky and a delicious shot of Glen Moray. A most enjoyable and thought provoking evening raising funds for the cause. The DVD is available to borrow for a donation. Contact via ARCS email.
Sponsored Walk
A big thank you to everyone who supported our sponsored walk at Carsington Water. We’ve raised a total of £868 to help fund our work.
We’re currently helping an Afghan family, who were among 20,000 Afghanis airlifted out of Kabul last year, to start a new life in Ashbourne. Volunteers have prepared a safe, fully equipped home for the family and they are putting in place a package of support to help them rebuild their lives in the local community.
